CHEYENNE, Wyo.- The legislator of Wyoming has signed into law that abortion of an unborn child with a detectable heart beat will result in a felony for both the mother and the physician in the operation. This bill was signed into law by Governor Mark Gordan.
Any person who violates this law will be guilty of a felony with up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 dollar fine. Physicians who perform this procedure have committed a felony and could be sent to prison from 1 year to a maximum of 14 years. Any physicians who perform this operation on a minor can spend up to a year in jail or up to $1,000 dollar fine or both.
The exception to this ruling is in case of a medical emergency that threatens the life of the woman or child, an ectopic birth, and to remove a dead fetus from the woman.
The bill (HB0126) vaguely defines a woman as a female person. Additionally, the bill does not include exceptions for incest and rape which had cause some controversy.
This bill goes into law immediately.
